Benefits of using ArtiKool™
  • Reduces friction of moving compressor parts.
  • Provides stabalised boundary lubrication protection during operation and startup.
  • Improves head exchange by displacement of refrigeration oil buildup.
  • Prevents oxidation and provides corrosion protection.
  • Improves the life of bearings, seals and all compressor parts.
  • Quiets compressor noise.
  • Increases cooling capacity.
  • Reduces electricity consumption.

ArtiKool™ usually gives a quick return on investment through lowering cooling costs. It then goes on saving energy and operating expenses through reducing friction and head pressure in the compressor, thus improving compressor life, cutting compressor run time and even reducing friction for smoother compression operation.

FAQ about ArtiKool™

Does ArtiKool contain chlorine? Why not?

ArtiKool™ contains no chlorine or halogens, and is completely complaint with the Montreal Protocols. Chlorine in your lubricant can interact with moisture and produce hydrochloric acid and this has an extremely adverse affect on your piping, compressor winding insulation, and bearing materials.

Current refrigerants contain very small amounts of chlorine...but future refrigerants (to be phased in over the next few years, with some in use now...contain no chlorine at all. In fact, chlorides* are defined as a "contaminants" by the 1999 STANDARD for SPECIFICATION FOR FLUOROCARBON REFRIGER ANTS published by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute.

As newer systems are placed into service designed to use chlorine-free refrigerants, manufacturers will respond by specifying materials that are compatible with the new environment. If it isn't necessary to build in "chlorine resistance" they won't do so...because it is expensive. Many systems are being placed into service TODAY which are "chlorine free".

Can AtiKool™ be used in different applications?

ArtiKool™ can also be used in air-compressor systems. The benefits provided by clearing piping of retained oil and the increased lubricity have similar effects in these systems. Energy usage is reduced through increased lubricity and contaminants in the lines are returned to the compressor where they can be handled efficiently (through oil change). The increase in heat-exchange efficiency will be helpful in air driers and coolers.

Is ArtiKool™ similar to those "Engine Oil Additives"?

Only because it is an oil additive. ArtiKool™ contains no "friction modifiers" such as PTFE which have been shown to create conditions which can clog small passages and filters. ArtiKool™ treats the METAL, not the OIL. Within about a week of installation (in most cases) no "active ingredient" remains in the carrier oil that was used to place ArtiKool™ in your system....ArtiKool™ has bonded with metal surfaces.

My Air-Conditioning systems don't have enough capacity. If I'm going to change them I don't need to treat them, right?

The system should be treated. It may be possible that the increase in cooling efficiency will postpone the need to replace the system immediately. If multiple systems covering a facility are treated, enough increase in cooling capacity can be seen to eliminate the need to upgrade for quite a while. Also, if you are considering replacing some of your equipment because of maintenance issues (not related to leaks in metal components), you may find that many of these "issues" just go away.

Is ArtiKool™ compatible with all refrigerants? Is this an issue?

ArtiKool™ is as compatible with all refrigerants as any refrigerant oil. Compatibility with refrigerant oil is much more important.

I've had a compressor burnout. How will this affect my installation?

This increases the chances that we may see some clogging of filters or line driers after installation. This is because compressor failures introduce a broad range of contaminants into your lines. When the compressor is replaced these contaminants, for the most part, remain. This occurs even when systems are "flushed" prior to restarting the new compressor. While this may appear on the surface to be a "bad thing", it is actually proof that we are doing a good job. These contaminants would eventually have found their way to your filters or driers but we have done it when we WANT to do it, not when chance demands.

Older systems, and those that have suffered compressor burn-outs, see the greatest benefit, in both reliability and efficiency, after ArtiKool™ installation.

I've heard that these types of products have been known to cause compressor failure. Is this true?

Unfortunately, this is true. Despite our differences from other formulations of "PROA" products, we have seen no case of failure where it could not be traced to improper installation, or failure to follow-up after an installation. This is why we suggest that all of its distributors and Master Distributors undergo some formal training for supervision of the installation of ArtiKool™. This is the reason you are told that after installation may require as many as three follow up trips to check air-conditioning and refrigeration systems after installation.

When ArtiKool™ is installed, will I see immediate results?

In the case of noisy operation, you may see (well..."hear") a change within minutes to a couple of hours. In most cases, dependent upon the size of the system and the speed at which lubricant circulates within it, you will see the bulk of benefit within three days to two weeks. Auto air-conditioning systems, for example, will tend to show benefits within thirty minutes of installation. Some large centrifugal or screw chillers may take as long as three weeks to see maximum benefit.

If I replace my compressor will I need to re-treat my system?

Remember, we treat the "metal", not the "oil". If you change your oil you will not remove any benefit we have applied. We recommend that, on oil change, you re-treat your system at 10% of the original "dose" to replace any benefit lost through normal wear-and-tear. Since we initially treat your system at a ration of about 1:10 (10% of your existing lubricant capacity), for re-treating we recommend 10% of that amount, or about 1% of your existing lubricant capacity.

Will installation void my existing warranty?

Requiring you to use "Brand X" oil is considered a "tie in sales provision" in a warranty. Generally, tie-in sales provisions are not allowed. Such a provision would require a purchaser of the warranted product to buy an item or service from a particular company to use with the warranted product in order to be eligible to receive a remedy under the warranty.

The warrantor must prove that the other product actively caused the failure...it is not sufficient for him to simply claim it to be.

Will ArtiKool™ adversely affect my compressor seals?

No. It will actually serve to recondition many of your seals and should result in less probability of leaking and seal failure.

ArtiKool Refrigerant Additive

Why ArtiKool™ Refrigerant Oil Additive? ArtiKool is provided by an Energy Star Partner

Artikool™ is one of the simplest yet most effective treatments Conservelec may recommend as an addition of special patented, halogenated hydrocarbon additives to refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including chillers and heat pumps.

Proven in hundreds of installations during the last 15 years, ArtiKool's specialised additives reduce friction on moving parts giving new life to bearings, seals and compressor parts. Reducing the friction in the system improves the compressors mechanical efficiency and lowers electrical consumption. You will immediately notice increased cooling capacity and a quieter compressor.

Best of all, you’ll notice the savings on your electric bill. This treatment alone can save 10-15% on the electric use of the treated system.

Here is how it works:

ArtiKool™ is a metal conditioner used in extreme pressure situations as an additive to lubricate the system. These formula's are unique in this industry making the ArtiKool™ formula's leaders in the Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive's on the market today.

ArtiKool™ uses the latest and greatest technology available when it comes to improving the performance of a cooling system as an example.

How ArtiKool™ works in motion

• This unique Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive(PROA) formula is useful in many applications, including: consumer, commercial, military, industrial, federal sector refrigeration and chillers; air-conditioning systems and heat pumps in addition to engines, and machining and weapons lube. This PROA additive in a system increases lubricity of refrigerant oils by significantly enhancing compressor operation and efficiency and significantly improving heat transfer in the evaporator and condensing coils.

Before adding ArtiKool - Oil build up results in POOR efficiency

• ArtiKool™ additive is blended, appropriately to the equipment design, into the refrigerant oil reservoir or refrigerant flow. The PROA is carried with the primary lubricant moving throughout the system. We refer to the additive as being polarized since there is covalent molecular bonding that takes place between the negatively charged Artikool™ molecules and the positive charge of the metal surfaces.

• Each ArtiKool™ negatively charged molecule attaches to the metal surfaces inside the system;
these surfaces are thus conditioned, displacing dirt, carbon deposits (coking) and lubrication oil build-up. After adding ArtiKool - Removed oil build up results in GREAT efficiencyEventually a thin layer one molecule thick is formed of ArtiKool™ in the system. This single layer in effext makes a smoother surface for the refrigerant to travel thus providing optimum conditions for efficient thermal conductivity within the heat exchanger system or refrigeration/air conditioning equipment. In addition, ArtiKool™ provides greatly enhanced lubrication to all moving parts of refrigeration equipment under extreme pressure.

• ArtiKool™ Industrial Grade has no equal with it's cleaning agent that will help older units run almost like new and new units keep running like new for years to come. ArtiKool™ does not use Chlorine in it's makeup and can be used for automobiles as well all air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Is ArtiKool™ compatible with my refrigerant oil?

ArtiKool™ uses, as a carrier oil, a highly refined mineral oil (in the primary formulation). Many manufacturers make claims that they are "compatible with all refrigerants", when in fact...they are NOT compatible with all refrigerant LUBRICANTS as you can see in the chart below.

Synthetic Lubricant Type Compatibility with Mineral Oil
Alkylbenzenes Excellent
Polyalphaolefins Excellent
Diesters Good
Phosphate Esters Fair
Plyolesters Fair
Polyglycols Poor

Our distributors, dealers, and installers are trained to determine the type of lubricant your system uses before we apply product. In the event you have what we know to be an incompatible oil, we can formulate ArtiKool™ using your existing oil type (exactly).

Understanding Refrigeration

To assist in realising how ArtiKool™ helps refrigeration systems a simple explination of those systems follows.

A refrigeration system contains refrigerant, whose flow is controlled by the metering device into the evaporator. The evaporator is a means for absorbing heat into the refrigeration system. The compressor compresses from the evaporator (low-pressure area) to the condenser (high-pressure area). In the condenser the heat is removed from the refrigeration system.

ArtiKool™ Insulates = Greater Efficiency

ArtiKool™ molecules adhere to the inside of the condenser and evaporator coil tubing, just as the minor portions of compressor oil in refrigerants do. These operate as insulation to reduce the heat transfer ability of the condenser and evaporator. However, there is a major difference between ArtiKool™ and regular compressor oil. The tubing on the inside of the condenser and evaporator share electrons with the molecules in ArtiKool™, so that ArtiKool™ takes the place of the compressor oil. Unlike the oil though, ArtiKool™ maintains a one molecule thick covering since the molecules are polarized to repel one another. These abilities enhance the system’s capacity to transfer heat and reduce rust and corrosion.

This better heat transfer ability results in reduced work by the compressor and set points being reached earlier since the evaporator coils are cooler. Therefore, the compressor works less time, which saves money, especially when combined with the reduced friction enabled through the lubricating qualities of the product.

Additional Advantages

Besides all of the tremendous benefits ArtiKool™ renders to refrigeration and a/c units that are mentioned above, Artikool will also reduce valve noise, maintain seal pliability, reduce scuffing, scoring and welding, reduce oil foaming and it does not possess ingredients that will retain moisture.
