Comparison and Proof of Benefits Procedures

Comparison and proof of electricity cost savings may be classified into the following two types:

  1. Electrical energy values (kWh) are usually used to compare electricity cost savings, using the "SEMS SunPower Energy Monitoring System" software electrical calculation and analysis program.
  2. Recordings are divided into the following 2 periods:
Recordings before use of SunPower equipment. Recording Period: 15 days (OFF Sunpower Breaker)
Recordings during use of SunPower equipment. Recording Period: 15 days (ON Sunpower Breaker)
  3. Data from the two periods will be compared to calculate energy-savings using data with similar loads. This may be divided into the following steps:
    • Find a period with similar electricity consumption habits (kWh) from the "SEMS SunPower Energy Monitoring System" Electrical Recording & Analysis Program's daily electricity consumption report.
    • When periods with similar operation are identified, calculate the average for each period using only the units (kWh) from periods of similar operation.
    • Compare electricity consumption data (kWh) from the two periods and calculate energy consumption savings (kWh) as follows:
(average energy (kWh) prior to using SunPower) - (average energy (kWh) during us of Sunpower)
(energy value (kWh) prior to using SunPower)

Sample Calculation of Energy Saver on Electricity Bill:

1. Under Normal Conditions: 2. With SunPower™ Energy Saving Installed
Voltage: 415V
Actual Current (Ampere): 353 A
(assume loading constant)
Power Factor: 0.91
Voltage: 415V
Actual Current (Ampere): 300 A
(assume loading constant)
Power Factor: 0.94
Power KW = √ 3 x V x | x Power Factor:
    =     1.732 x 415 x 353 x 0.91
    =     233.6756 kWh
Power KW = √ 3 x V x | x Power Factor:
    =     1.732 x 415 x 300 x 0.94
    =     205.14 kWh
Total kWh per day:
    =    230.8937 kWh x 24 hours
    =    5541.448 kWh
Total kWh per day:
    =    202.6956 kWh x 24 hours
    =    4864.695 kWh
Electricity tariff =   0.138 cents per kWh
Electricity tariff =   0.138 cents per kWh
Cost of Electricity per Day:
    =     0.138    x    5541.45
    =     $   764.72
Cost of Electricity per Day:
    =     0.138    x    4864.70
    =     $   671.32
Savings to Client:
    =     12.21 %
    =     $   93.40 per day

Type of Measure & Verification

  1. Types with differing electricity consumption rates, but with a main variable affecting increases or reductions in energy consumption.
  2. Types with differing electricity consumption rates, where no variable affecting increases or reductions in energy consumption was found.

Procedure of Measure & Verification

  1. The company will inspect the electrical system present installation set-up.
    • Inspect electricity consumption habits, operation methods and production.
    • Inspect types and sizes of machinery, and the electrical power used by each machine.
  2. The company will hold a meeting with the customer in order to summarise methods of comparison and proof of energy savings, which must be mutually agreed.
  3. Conservelec will install the first SunPower device and collect the results before and after installation. The installer will collect the electrical analysis to calculate the cost savings.
  4. When collection of data prior to installation is completed, Conservelec will install and switch on the SunPower device and commence collection of data during use of the equipment until a specified date.
  5. When all data have been collected, comparison and proof of energy-savings will be carried out according to the agreed period.
